Happy Columbus Day. I wanted to share 2 Buck 110's celebrating the explorer Christopher Columbus. Also the third knife is a prototype/test knife that the scrimshaw artist Linda Karst most likely tested scrimshaw application to bone. Happy Columbus Day

I suspect it is a holiday soon to be dumped. The 140 year old Christopher Columbus Statue in St Louis's Tower Grove park has been taken down. Uncontrolled immigration did not work out too well for native Americans. I have the Linda Karst scrimshaw version. I've always wondered, the label says "hand scrimshawed". I don't see how she could scrimshaw all 1,492 by hand, is one prototyped and the rest laser etched or what?

edit: There were 1,492 gold etched, not the scrimshaw

I wondered about the scimshaw also. If you look at the far left of your handle you will see a signature and knife number.

My only intention today was to share my Columbus themed Buck 110s. Today seemed like an appropriate day and like everything else in these times it turned political. Skylercstevens, those are some fantastic srimshaw pieces of art.

Went to the post office to see they were closed even after I read this topic lol Thankfully I could use the self service machine to ship.

doesn't have to be, if we don't want it to be. just two holidays on same day is all. I'm enjoying everyone's knives.

Today is Columbus day ?
My calendar said " indigenous peoples day ", I'm sure I know what that's all about.

Very cool knives btw.

Desoto, I don't think Lynda did that many. That 1492 was a commenting date. I didn't take it as being the number of pieces she did. Of course I could be in error.
Still, you gents -- these examples are stunning. Thanks for posting them. DM

You made me look David. It was the gold etch version that had a listed quantity of 1,492. No quantity was given in the SP list (1993) for the scrimshaw version. The scrimshawed versions are serialized, mine is #469 and the one shown above is #497. That is still quite a few.

Columbus Day was political from the get-go to honor Italian-Americans. I just wish I still got it off :)
