Happy Dasain and Tihar!

As the two major festivals Dasain and Tihar are coming up within the next few weeks, I'd like to pass my thanks to the BirGhorka staff for the good khukuris they have provided and wish them an excellent Dasain and Tihar.

The kamis are trying to build some inventory so we won't run completely out of knives. I have asked them not to rush and have reminded them of past Dasein tang failures. We'll see.

Dasain(Dasein) is the most popular of the festivals in Nepal. A brief description can be found here and here .

Tihar, known as the Festival of Lights, is described here and here .

Hope this helps explain what they are for/about.

I think that Uncle Bill may have some nice Dasain/Tihar pix in his box of 10,000 pix

Tihar was my favorite of the two. It reminds me some of Christmas here. Candles are set on the front porch so Laxmi can see her way and often kids come around "caroling." It's quite nice. However, Dasein has the ritual killing of various animals and can get bloody and a bit nasty at times.

But the kamis will celebrate both to the max and our production suffers and so does the quality sometimes.
