Just wanted to share my early Christmas present! I have been scouring for a Landis crank splitter for a couple years I think and have seen a couple Americans that weren't quite right and finally I found an American in quite good shape on ebay and better, I had enough to buy it. I won!

Now it's here and I've been playing with it and used it on one project already. Tonight I took out the blade and made up a jig to resharpen it.

I don't know how old this is but I love machines that are made properly, built to last.

Very nice! I do share your love of the old machines, they just have a soul to them eh? :D

I was just looking at some drawings of old woodworking machines at work today and there's something in them that just shows that they aren't far removed from the people that made them. Sure they used machines to make the machines but the work was done by hand, with quality materials and made properly, to work and to work for a long time. As my buddy at work said of the woodworking machines, he's had the pleasure to use some of the really old stuff and commented that they are dangerous as hell but work better than anything today.

We just replaced an old delta power feed on a shaper at work that was almost 40 years old. One of the gears shattered and would have to be custom milled so they bought a new one for $1500. It's a turd in comparison.

I put an early bid on one on the bay just a couple weeks ago, looks like it. You take a much better picture than the one in the ad.
Congrats!
