I was going to post this earlier but, in light of Chokpa's accident, I refrained. Now that we know she'll be OK, here's wishing everyone a joyous Diwali.

Namaste,
Brian

Brian, thanks a million and thanks for the personal card you sent! Much appreciated.

Diwali, or Tihar as most Nepalis call it, was one of my favorites of all the Hindu celebrations. Yangdu and I observed the rituals of Tihar with a good amount of joy. It is called the "festival of lights" and we would put candles out on our porch to light the way for Laxmi as she made her rounds. There are other rituals involved such as "bai tika", offering younger brothers a tika by elder sisters. A beautiful celebration.

The downside is BirGorkha will be closed again until Monday for Tihar!

Well, that may be a bit of a downside for us impatient khukuri knuts stateside, but we like our holidays too and the guys in Nepal are hard-working fellows (not to mention their families). We'll do fine. I'm all for letting (and even encouraging) them to have a well-deserved holiday.
