Howdy all, hope you're having a good Easter. Pretty much locked down today, sandstorm, not safe to be moving about much. Wind collapsed our tent last night, got it propped up with some "C" wire pickets, but not without a bit of struggle. More ugly bugs, and lo and behold, a two foot long lizard of some sort that scared the willies out of the boys. I think the lizard was more scared, 'cause he was frantically dashing about looking for a way out of the tent he'd stumbled into. The boys didn't hurt him, which pleased me, some things do need killing, but everything deserves at least a chance to part in peace.(funny part was hearing some pretty tough guys shrieking in terror at this alien looking critter)
Chow was good today, they put on the dog on account of it being Easter. Letting the boys have a bit of rest, still lots to be done, but it'll keep for now. Got my "Magic Sirupati" back, the fellow I'd loaned it to got handed a pretty good field knife by his dad right before we rolled out. The kid said his dad had carried the knife "way back in Desert Storm", I said, "wow, way back then huh?".
I think I'll practice some of the moves Dr. Winborne was demonstrating at the conference (great tape) with my Siru, since you never know when such knowledge could be useful.
One of my female troops was in a bit of a slump, she got to see her husband briefly as he passed through with his unit, and then he was gone again. She loved to listen to me play my penny whistle over in Afghanistan, so I broke it out of my duffel bag and played a few songs for her. Then I took a piece of copper grounding wire to make a hoop, some artificial sinew and such from my possibles bag, and taught her how to make a dream catcher. She loves the silly thing, and when I left her she had a smile back on her face. Couldn't help but smile myself, always good to help a buddy through a slump, even if they don't know that's what you're doing.
Anyhow, Happy Easter y'all
