I know Bill Cosby is in the hoosegow these days, but he once had a comment on child rearing that I've always appreciated. I've paraphrased it below:
You do everything you can to get your kids going in the right direction. When they turn into useful adult members of society, you drop to your knees and thank God because you know it was a miracle and not your doing.
