This happy holiday is full of festivities that are ancient myths for saying
"Goodbye" to last year and "Hello" to the brand new year.

Several beliefs have been passed down throughout the centuries and
are still practiced in some ancient form today. Some will eat a specific
food, like black-eyed peas, to attract more money in the coming year.

Others believe they can ward off bad luck by cleaning their house from
top to bottom on New Year's Eve. Fireworks and noisemakers for New
Year's Eve festivities at the stroke of midnight, are ancient beliefs that
the noise will chase away all the evil spirits from last year.

The mythical traditions of Father Time and the New Year Baby persist
from the ancient Greeks, perhaps from as far back as 600 BC. During
the coming year, the baby grows up and becomes Father Time at
midnight on December 31st.

We at HI will have a New Year ahead of us full of new creations by our
Kamis and the business growth that we all anticipate. You are all a very
important part of that growth that sustains HI in both good and bad times.

Happy New Year to all of you!

Tapai Haru Sabilai Naya Barsa 2012 ko Subakamana!

Happy New Year to you also, Auntie!
And Happy New Year to all our friends and forumites! May this year bring us all good tidings.

Here it consists of sitting on the front porch listening to the multitudes of 12 gauge shotguns popping off at midnight, family, maybe a sip or two of moonshine, some good food the next day. Anyway, Happy New Year Yangdu, Karda, and everyone else here. And Happy New Year to all the Kamis also. Generally my family also takes a trip to the cematary the first day of the new year to remember those who have passed.

New year 2012 to you too Auntie Yangdu :)
And new year to all :D

Happy New year to everyone! May we all share in and be grateful for the blessings of our creator, whatever we choose to call him/her. Howard, thanks for the recipe link. Your blackeyed pea and cornbread recipe looks mighty tasty. You must be from the south, or maybe your world travels just began a little closer to home:). Food is a wonderful way to share and explore culture. BTW, how's beach living treating you? Happy New Year All!

My ma is from Missouri, so some of the traditions came along with her. I think I got some skepticism from those parts also. Still just part-time on the island, but looking to close on selling the other house in the near future. The 2011 housing market was a challenge.
