Today is the anniversary of the day that I walked off the Day job and into being a full time Knife Maker.I wouldnt change it for the world. Thanks to my Lovely wife Donna who works and makes sure the bills get paid and doesnt fuss when I get new equipment or dont sell anything for a month.I think I will celabrate by spending the whole day in the shop, leaving time for the forums of coarse........Bruce

I'd like my wife to be like that, but they were sold out when I got mine

Congratulations,

I often ponder the thought of the day I leave the daily grind to make knives for a living. I still have a lot to learn to over come the fear of losing that steady paycheck.
Then maybe it is holding me back from greater things. Stories like yours always push me a little closer to the edge.
Again congrats

Scott

Bruce,

Congratulations on a lovely wife and fine children who support your passion. Yes, they should come first.

Fortunate for us, the blade lovers/users, you have more than enough left for the hammer and the forge.

Best wishes for this anniversary and those to come.

CONGRADULATIONS!!! That is a huge step (quitting the day job). I'm glad you had the support of a good partner. That is SO important!
I owe my start in knifemaking to my sweetie. Two years ago we went on a long car trip and the stereo crapped out 1/2 hour out of town. We ended up talking the whole time, and she asked me this question. " If you could do anything you wanted with your life, what would it be?"
I had to think about that a minute. Up till that point my goal had been to get a "real" job, and a good relationship. Now that I had both what would I shoot for? The very first thing that popped into my head (out of some dormant storgae locker) was "I'd like to make knives." I had wanted to since age 14 when I had no resources or space to do so.
Her next question changed my life. "Whats stopping you from doing that?". Again a long pause....then a big grin, and here I am!
Heres to the women who put up with us, and even more the ones who support us!!!
Thanks!
ED

it's great having some support in your decision to make knives. i started when me and my father made a 2 bladed axe, it was fun, but that got me into knifemaking. i've been making knives ever since then, about 2 yrs. ago.
