Ogden Nash, a marvelous writer, and dubiously-skilled poet, was talking with some friends a few days after Thanksgiving. They were bemoaning the turkey hash, turkey soup, turkey sandwiches and other left-over turkey dishes from the holiday. One mentioned how dreadful it would be if there were TWO Thanksgivings.
Nash penned this shortly after. It's slightly abridged since I can't remember it all.
Happy thanksgiving to all HI and friends. We need some pics of ppl cutting their turkey. What would you use? GCB? This year would have to be the Giant Speer Vala. No turkey for ndog this year. I had quail instead Yummm! No leftovers
Happy Thanksgiving to all!! Anyone else use an HI blade on their bird? I used my Kitchen KLVUK, after convincing my dad and brother. They both cook and are of the mindset that a khukuri is too big and thick for the kitchen. Maybe a traditional carving knife would have been "better," but that would be no fun, and Keshar did just fine. Just a little thicker slices than your average cold cuts Mom took some pictures, I'll get those from her and post them later, or tomorrow after work.
Gotta go for now, doing some HI show and tell for the family before dessert!
Wife cooked a turkey today, seems she always does a day or two after Thanksgiving which we spend at my sisters so I got to whittle one yesterday and then again today. Actually worked out ok since I went to the knife rack. I first grabbed a Manjushree but quickly determined that was mild overkill.
I knew my Pen Knife would work well but finally grabbed a fine KK that I got from Wildman a while back.
Worked like a champ and I felt really good using it.
All this after making a couple more boxes of kindling this morning with the CAK. A fine HI day indeed.
Had a bit of trouble getting pictures from my mom, but here they are. My dad had a carving knife, boning knife, and tongs; I grabbed my Keshar Lal and a cut glove, just in case.
Photo evidence:
Dad, doubtful of Keshar's ability to take on the 15lb bird
Deboning the thigh
Slicing thigh
Action shot slicing some breast. Keshar likes his slices nice and thick.
And my brother and I, with our Mom-stop-taking-pictures-we're-trying-to-eat faces
