Thanksgiving

A day for giving thanks,
And eating too much food;
America the bountiful,
from origins so rude,
Has grown to be so powerful,
Our children's toys are banks.

But we here will remember this,
As long as time remains,
Our families around us,
And all our rightful gains:
Feel sorry for the other folk,
Who think prosperity is just a joke.

Not for earth-shaking wars
Or satellites the globe around,
Our power's formed for only this:
My daughter's cheerful, loving kiss.

Happy Thanksgiving Day, folks!

Hope everyone has the chance to gather around with friends and family. If you don't have friends or family don't overlook some of those free meals. Couple of my nicest Thanksgivings were helping a local lady put on a meal for "whomever wanted to turn out - no questions asked, no cover, no donation needed." All anyone needed to do was come.

Esav,
Your poem is beautiful and it caused me to choke a tear.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Beautiful, Esav!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends here at BF.

I will be spending the day with my family - playing with the grandkids.

I am thankful AND lucky.

best regards -

Happy Thanksgiving to all and my special prayers go out to those in harms way today and the families missing them. A special mention to all those celebrating the first Thanksgiving with a member gone, Da died Monday so I understand what you are feeling.

God Bless and keep all strong and safe.
Bill

Kind regards to you all as you today, ponder all of those things that you are thankful for... may they be MANY!

Franklin's Letter to His Daughter (excerpt)

"For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the River, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labour of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent Bird has at length taken a Fish, and is bearing it to his Nest for the Support of his Mate and young Ones, the Bald Eagle pursues him and takes it from him.

"With all this Injustice, he is never in good Case but like those among Men who live by Sharping & Robbing he is generally poor and often very lousy. Besides he is a rank Coward: The little King Bird not bigger than a Sparrow attacks him boldly and drives him out of the District. He is therefore by no means a proper Emblem for the brave and honest Cincinnati of America who have driven all the King birds from our Country...

"I am on this account not displeased that the Figure is not known as a Bald Eagle, but looks more like a Turkey. For the Truth the Turkey is in Comparison a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America... He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage, and would not hesitate to attack a Grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his Farm Yard with a red Coat on."

I, for one, am happy that the turkey was not chosen as that national bird. I can't even imagine what roast eagle would taste like. :barf:

Normally Thanksgiving doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

This year I am thankful that I am back in my home state, that my father feels OK, that my mom is glad that I am back, that I have a new sister in law (a first for me), and that I feel like I have a second family now.

That's good to hear. We've all got problems. You have to be ready to appreciate the good things in life, too.

Thanks Esav!

Someone needs to push thanksgiving over here, we have to wait until Christmas for our turkey!
