I'm sure some of you other Survivors have been in the ranks. Hats off to you good people, enjoy your day. I was in for 6 years in the 82nd Airborne infantry, spent most of my time in the shittiest place in North Carolina. I've been out for 13 years and still don't even have so much as a VA ID, I hate dealing with them that much.

Share your story or don't, just stake your claim to "fame". We were born and bred to disdain all the other services and even Army REMF's but at the end of the day we're all on the same team and none of us will do our jobs without the others. A couple FTX's with the jarheads at Lejeune made me appreciate how badass the other branches can be. Not very creative, but badasses nonetheless.😉

I didn't spend much time deciphering other MOS codes, is that tank crewman? That is badass man! I did everything I could to not even be assigned to 11-H TOE crews, I hated the thought of being in a rig the bad guys would be shooting for. I always figured that if all else failed, I wasn't in a steel coffin and I could run like hell!

Correct, M1 Abrams Crewman. Why carry your weapon into battle when it can carry you!

Best damn job I ever had!!!

fAww man, tankers! Full of fail, or so we were trained. We'd picked one of the CIA's "let's chat" dudes up in Vitina Kosovo at a pizza joint of all places. We'd had pitched firefights and it was escalating with gun running gangs from Macedonia but it still didn't clear the streets like it did when 2 Abrams showed up. It was a thing of beauty.

LOL, It's all fun and games until the tanks show up!

I was attached to a battalion from the 82nd when I was in Iraq, great group of guys!

Retired Naval Officer. Learned quickly that NAVY is an acronym for Never Again Volunteer Yourself.
MARINE = My Azz Rides In Navy Equipment
ARMY = Ain't Ready for Marines Yet
Sorry Air Force don't have one for you guys.
Happy Vets day all. My day will be spent fishing with the wife today.

People are so polite under the guns of an Abrams, they just wouldn't quit squirrel'ing around before that. I got my first hands-on training on dealing with a sucking chest wound before they sent the armor in. Glad it was a Serbian dude but man they were not happy with us being there.

I have heard stories from guys that were in Kosovo and the surrounding areas, both mil and pmc types. If it wasn't the people it was the mines that were cause for concern. While the inhabitants of SW Asia didn't like us being around either, it wasn't as bad as what I heard from the Bosnia/Kosovo group.

You are correct that armor commands respect when it's around, and rightfully so. The target imaging systems see everything (sometimes more than you wanted to see!) and the inability to pierce their armor with most man portable weapon systems is daunting. When all else fails we could drive the tanks right through most obstacles in our way!

But I never lost respect for the guys on the ground, having to deal with the terrain and weather, among other issues!

Overstated stuff I guess. We had guys at a church in Vitina for a few weeks at a time because we weren't approved to relieve them. Our captain cut us loose anyways, and that was just me, him, and his RTO. We burnt bodies for days. Our CO at the time is the Ranger Regiment CO, fun times. And we still had to make the guys in the established places sit back. It was a long time ago. Out at the time champion is the new head of the 75th ranger regiment, anyone bothering to deal with me is too stupid to even breathe, CPT "Sorry you're fuciked"
