hey guys so i see the hapstone m3 is on sale right now. with stones i can get it for about 150ish. I also a company called madedge which is new to me. so for about the same price i can get that with clamps instead of the table. Granted hapstone is more known. So does anyone have either one and can tell me more about it or what you like or dont like?

I just purchased the Hapstone M3 and debated between clamp systems. I used to have a KME and found it difficult to sharpen FFG blades and it was limited in angle sharpening. I chose the M3 for price and versatility as well as having the option to purchase a clamp system add on. The benefit of the hapstone is that it is modular.

That's enough to sell me and I kinda thought along the same.lines with the clamps. I mean especially the sale they are running right now I'll be hard pressed to find a system with stones for that price

Prices asides, the M3 is a good system with repeatable results. I would get a digital angle meter as a first option. My choice is wixley

So from the pics it looks like the stone carrier has a plate for the angle gauge? Or is it just look like that? I'm gonna pull the trigger on it with the basic stones. I was thinking maybe the venev 4" double stones but what would you choose?

That's true, I forgot the 3 has the angle gauge built in, and also has a plate for digital also, yes....I have a 2. Get 6" stones, not 4". 4's are for KME style sharpeners. it WILL make a difference in sharpening. As far as stones go, if you sharpening any better than CPM30 steel get diamond for sure. Brand wise its a ford vs chevy thing. I prefer Diamond Matrix stones but cant dog on Venev, they are good also. Get what you can afford, but I guarantee you'll want more stones later anyways, lol

Wait does it really have it built in!? And yeah I noticed that when I looked into the double . stones where the basic diamond arr edgepro sized. Looks like I'll get the 3 diamond stone set along with an angle gauge

I just ordered the M3 yesterday after much research. I already had the venen bonded diamond stones, so that made the choice easier. I am not 100% sure this system will work well with smaller traditional folders, but looking forward to trying!

See I kept reading and it sounds like from what it said it will work for my blades which are around 3-3.5 luckily like Bm,spyderco etc

I was able to sharpen my Dragonfly II on my M3 tonight.

When I say small blades, I don’t mean length- I mean the width of the blade from the spine to the edge. I am concerned a narrow blade (like a pen blade) may not have enough width to rest on the platform. Also, those magnets are strong- and they don’t go all the way to the edge of the platform. Thus, the magnets may “pull” the blade onto the center of the magnets, which may not be the right position for sharpening. Hopefully that makes sense. I’m stationed overseas now, so I won’t receive my M3 for a couple weeks, but I will take some pics when I get it and see how this all works out.

Looks like Hapstone M3 is attracting interest among BladeForumers. I will include free vertical blade support to all M3 unshipped and ordered until the end of 2020.

Awesome! I am a bit confused as to where the vertical blade support attaches. In the pics of the M3 on your website, the small knife table seems to “float” from the base (as opposed to the older design, which had a vertical front portion where the blade support attached. Am I missing something?

How will you know it's one.of.us who order? I'm gonna put in my order today.

I'm an idiot I thought about it after I typed up what I said ha but looking around and everything I do like the plug and play ability. I think for now the regular m3 will work. If I want to get the clamping system later on luckily it's easy to do

I ordered an R2 with the 2x2 Venev diamond stones. I may try the magnetic platform later.
