Howdy!

I am researching a sharpener, been using a Smiths and a Lansky for about 15 yrs. I have narrowed my search down to the Hapstone RS or the Tsprof Pioneer. The question is regarding the Hapstone. In all the videos I have seen of the Hapstone in operation, the clamps are very bendy allowing what appears to be a lot of flex, especially towards the ends of the knife where the leverage is the greatest. Has anyone experienced this or is it a non-issue?
Thanks in advance,
jangus

The TSProf ko3 has a solid rod. Coupler holding the two sections together.

The guild rods, by themselves, you can flex them by hand. Feeling them return to straight. They're some kind of chrome plated tool steel. Hopefully they used a spring steel.

Flex is better then bent.

In this particular Hapstone RS video, the reviewer states in the comments that one of his clamps was loose.

I ordered a Hapstone RS Black Edition, today. The Black Friday sales pricing was too good to pass up.
It will be kept at my workplace, where I spend the majority of my time.
Myself and a couple of my co-workers are avid sharpeners, and once I've had the chance to sharpen with it a few times,
I'll be sure to post my impressions and my co-workers thoughts on it in this forum.

Regards.

Thank! That is reassuring. Makes the Hapstone look a lot better.

That reviewer did videos of both the Hapstone RS and the Tsprof Pioneer, and said that if he had to pick, it would be a draw.

I'm not a high-volume sharpener by any stretch of the imagination. That said, I've had a Hapstone R2 for a couple of years and have never noticed any flex in the clamps. I'd like to clamp the base down, because I do occasionally use too much pressure, resulting in the entire gizmo rocking a little.

The R2 is much more heavily built than the RS, from the look of it.

The Hapstone RS is much smaller than the full-size version or the so-called big brother Hapstone R2

The Hapstone RS was designed with today's realities in mind, compactness, quality, speed. Take it out, sharpen it, put it away.
If we are talking about R2 and you are a master of your craft, this choice is more favorable from the commercial side, the range of work Hapstone R2 is slightly higher than that of RS.
