Hapstone R2 Angle off 0.6 degrees when blade is rotated 180 degrees. How do I correct?

I have a Hapstone R2 system that has had a quirk since I owned it. When I rotate the blade for sharpening, I get a change in degrees of angle of the two sides of 0.6 degrees (handle on the left, angle reads 19 deg. Handle on the right after rotation, angle reads 18.4 degrees). It does not matter if I have my cimeter, boning or chopping knife in the clamps I get similar readings. Is there something I am doing wrong? It becomes frustrating resetting my angles every time I rotate the knife.

If the angle is consistent why does 0.6° matter? The ultimate included apex angle is just the combination of the two.

What matters is consistency and the total included apex angle. Having a slightly asymmetric edge should not be a problem as far as I know. Some people use an even stronger asymmetry purposefully.

At most 0.6° means you will have an edge that is very slightly off-center if you have exactly the same bevel width on both sides of the knife, and if the knife grind itself is perfectly even; many are not. You could also perfectly center the apex and leave one bevel very slightly wider than the other.

We had a long thread about this recently, but I can't find it at the moment.

There are many reasons you could be seeing this discrepancy. It could be the knife itself, or the way you are clamping it, or the way the clamps are attached to the rotating arm, etc.
