Hello all. Considering a Hapstone R2 purchase and had a few questions. Hoping 777 replies. A quick little background, Have a Edgepro Apex but never really got comfortable trying to hold the knife still. So considering a clamp on. Have a few Spydercos. Some older fixed blade hunting knifes. And some kitchen knives to be sharpened. First question. Was looking at Amazons listing and they have a stone bundle option. I'm assuming its Gritomatics basic set. Is that enough to get me started with the option to upgrade later? I also think my edgepro stones should work. Not diamond but in a pinch. And lastly, I was thinking of a couple of extras. Maybe the light clamps for smaller knives. I did read 777s recommendations but not sure if I remember correctly. Maybe the fine tuner, and spring stoppers? Not sure. Memory is not as good as it use to be while getting up in age. LOL. Anyhoo, that's about it. Any tips and advice greatly appreciated. Thanks and you all have a great day

A Hapstone R2 "standard" version will be a solid choice and a huge upgrade from your Edge Pro Apex. Get yourself a fine tuning adapter, 2 x spring stoppers and a digital angle cube.

For now, don't buy extra stones - your edge pro stones will work just fine. Just get the Hapstone R2 Standard without any stones and use your current stones with it. If you have high vanadium carbide steels, then maybe eventually get some basic diamond stones.

See how the R2 Standard clamps work for you before getting additional clamps, you might just find they suit your needs well. If you eventually find that you want an extra set of clamps, then the R2 "Lite" clamps are nice to have. Hope all of this helps!
