i use the harbor freight portaband with the swag table for a lot of things. I haven't messed with the speed control yet, and always run it at full speed, or at least i though it was full speed, i wanted to try it at different speeds just to see how it performs, I adjusted the dial today and the speed stays the same from 1 to 7. No change, im wondering what could cause the speed switch to fail, capacitor? I have a router speed control i can use with it, but id rather figure out what's going on, the trigger is just an on/off click and isnt pressure sensitive like some of the more expensive brands. Any thought? Thanks

Mine works. Maybe try to change the brushes. If it’s under warranty they’ll replace it. I’ve replaced mine like 6 times but when this one I have craps out I’m getting a dewalt.

I might try that, I don't think it came with an extra set of brushes though. I bought it a while back, less than a year though, I'll see if its still covered, probably isnt. It still functions fine, just at a single speed. Thanks for the input

They come with the manual in the plastic pouch. I’ve never changed mine, I just remember a dremel I had a ways back and the speed stayed constant until I changed the brushes.
