Does anyone have any information on the Harbor Freight surface grinder? It looks like the same machine that Grizzly, Enco, and a few others sell, only cheaper. Anyone have one? Any problems with it? Thanks Tom

Try searching rec.crafts.metalworking at
www.dejanews.com

They're probably all made in the same factory but there are sometimes differences in models and what accessories they come with. Other times they're exactly the same except the price. I don't recall anything about surface grinders but a search should turn up some info; if not you can always post the question on that newsgroup.

I appreciate the reply and I checked out the site you recommended. There wasn't a lot of positive input on the machine, most of it was how much work they had to do to get it operating properly. I think I'll just bite the bullet and lay out some money for a good used one. I'm an ex toolgrinder and know what I want and I don't think it's the harbor freight model. It's time to put on the long face and mope around the house until my wife asks whats wrong. Then you tell her all the other knifemakers have surface grinders and they are making fun of me because I don't have one.

Just dont tell her you are getting it! ha ha I recently snuck a 6 X 18 Norton in my shop and finally got caught when I was trying it out, she says I dont remember that, I says just got it! Good excersise all that running! he he. I looked at the Grizzly and Harbor freight machines and am sure glad I found a used Norton, now I have to get the auto feeds working................

I think thats what I'm going to do, look around for a quality used machine. I have a friend in the machine shop business and he is going to look around for me. I told him that was what he needed to do, seeings that I have his new shotgun at my place while he figures out how to explain where it came from when he takes it home. Thanks for the replies.

A good used machine will do the job. The ones in harbor freight will do the job also. Several knifemakers have them and are very happy with them..
