I just bought the 10" disk grinder from Harbour Freight with the 3/4 HP motor.
Does anyone know if it can be reversed? Have you done it? Not terribly important, but would be nice to know if it's possible. Not a bad grinder for $70.00.

I don't know about reversing capabilities, but for sure you can't use 9X11" sheets on it now.

That's why most maker go with a 9" disk, you can glue wet or dry sandpaper on them and trim the excess to use for handsanding.
The difference in price is aprox., .50 a sheet VS $2.50-3.50 a PSA disk.

ya the 9" are nice, thats what i have. i made mine and i have complete control of speed and direction. the motor is a dc 3 hp but im probabley onley getting around 1.5 - 2 out of it. but 1hp is plunty of hp. I like tha fact that i can use the 9 x 11 sheets that i can get any where. you might beable to trim the 10 down to 9" if you want to

I have a 12 in. HF disc mounted sideways...if you find out how to reverse without costing an arm and a leg, let me know.:D

Check wiring information on the motor if you can change wires around to change direction of rotation then you can wire it up with a double pole double throw switch to change direction but it depends on the motor. My experience with most HF motors is that they are revesable. I did it with my disk grinder with a baldor motor.

Guess I'll take it apart and see how it's wired. I don't flat grind that way, but was curious. Yeah, 9" would be better as far as making your own sandpaper disks. I may trim the disk down to 9" later.

Just a thought on reversing. for those planning to reverse you would need to make sure how the disc is attached to the shaft. If it screws on making it run backwards without a locking pin could see it unscrew under load.

If you have a rest plate in front and it unscrews you risk having the rotor push backwards through the motor stator smashing the bearing locators in the case.

I have not seen it happen in 1/hp but I have seen it hapen with a water pump
the lock pin did not hold when the motor was run in revers the pump impeller unscrewed and buggered the motor. Just something to watch with screw attachements.

Back to basics congatulations on the new machine. I told myself 10 years ago I was going to get one I still have not. Your beating me in that regard. Enjoy it. New tools are always fun.
