I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I couldn't find it if it was, but I was just curious if anyone had tried industrial hard-chroming a steel platen. I am aware of the glass platens, but the fact that even the makers of them warn you that "this thing could fly apart at any time, sending shards of glass out in all directions" kind of gives me pause. Having had plenty of luck with hard-chromed firearms over the years (both the internal wear points and also being basically immune to kydex holsters which mark the hell out of other finishes) my thought was it might be a good way to reduce the coefficient of friction without introducing a very fragile structure into a high-speed operating environment. I have a couple guns I was considering getting chromed, figured I could remove my flat grinding platen and put it in the box too...
