Can anyone recommend a vendor. I know someone who needs two knives done.

Also, how would HC handle pits. Not well, I suspect.

Thanks,

Mike

try brownells gun smithing supply they sell a electoless nickel plating solution that is about as good as it gets

EN plating baths plate out at about 1mm/hour depending on temperature and bath concentration. The finish is very uniform but not as hard as hard chrome. EN is about 45 Rc and I believe hard chrome is is the 70+Rc area.

Glenn

the best hard chrome guys are guns shops, cylinder and slide, bill wilson, clark, etc. go to www.gunspot.com and ask whos the best....all do a great job....hard chrome is Rc 80 by the way....a good reason to get your 1911 hard chromed...the rail to rail fit will last a lot longer.

I'll second that on Checkmate hard chroming. They do other plating for firearms as well but started out as a hardchromer and no doubt one of the best. Much of their work at this time is contract work for gun mfgrs, but they still take in work from gunshops etc. Don't know why they wouldn't do knives though. Call and talk to Horace, good guy, tell him your needs he'll tell you if he can satisfy. Have had more than several guns done by him over the years and always satisfied. Last time I was in I saw a variety of work both from main line gun mfgrs. and custom makers of note, guess they're satisfied too. HTH
