hey all, i normally wear Vasque Sundowner Classics but as of late
http://www.vasque.com/products/m-sundownergtx.cfm
these are great boots and have served me well. i had my first pair for 6 years and still wear them and im on my second pair now. The first pair feels much smaller than the new pair. My toe's hit the front ( bad thing) but my foot doesn't slide at all. The new pair has about 20 miles on them now and feel more comfortable, my toes don’t hit the front of the boot but my heal slides around no matter how tight i make them. This is less of a problem when i wear my smart wool hiker socks though. If anyone has any suggestions on how to remedy this i would like to hear them. BTW these 2 pairs of boots are the exact same size by label. I would also like to know what kind of hard wear boots you guys use. I wear these all day every day unless im working out or im in for the night. I would like something that i can feel comfortable in backpacking or walking down the street.
thanks
matt

The vasques have been my go to boot for years also but, as you mentioned, the new ones leave a lot to be desired as far as fit goes. The last ones i bought did the toe crush (outer right foot) and finally wore in after a few months, so i will be doing some research for the next replacements. The Danner Ft Lewis still gets my vote as a great backwoods boot, but may not be the best boot for sidewalking treks.

I've been using a pair of Canadian military garrison boots as my hard wear boots for the past 4 years. I'm still on the first pair I got and not really anywhere near wearing them out yet. Steel toes, vibram soles, all leather with heavy duty stitching, for the money I don't think you can get a better pair of boots.
