Hard Knife to Lose

Thought I'd share this knife Jeremy Horton just made for me. Now it needs to go out to get a orange sheath.

He put a really nice oval shaped choil on it so it is very comfortable and safe to choke up on. It also almost has a Mora-like thickness at .410".:eek::D Seriously, it has a full convex grind and is meant for chopping and light carving (like tent pegs).
 
with a full convex you can get away with that thickness just fine. Excellent geometry choice. Though you know it's an axe and not a kitchen knife!

that orange is...extreme. Gunkote?

Thanks man, it is definitely a knife with the heart of an axe. I've always felt more comfortable/safer with a knife than a hatchet. IMO, it is a more versatile tool also.


A .410" kitchen knife shoots most vegetables off the cutting board, LOL (I've tried).


PM Horton on the coating specifics. I believe it is baked on powder coat.
 
gun kote is one type of baked on powdercoat, so that or something similar.

I tend to notice when I'm doing the big bush beaters in .25 inch that the axelike aspects start leading the way. I'd prefer a bushbeater over any smaller hatchet I've used, too. My SFA, at 20 inches, is about as small an axe as I'm safe with except for hawk throwing. Even then I prefer to baton split wood with a leuku.

Where are the orange G-10 scales? :confused:

Jeremy finally made me something thin. This one is like .13 or so. I pulled it out the other day, and three Volunteer fans came out of nowhere to ask me where I got it. It actually emits heat and doubles as a signaling device. Great little necker.
