Wifey bought one for her step dad for Christmas. He is visiting family in Gainesville, so maybe have time for a solution. The deployment is difficult even for me, but worse for FIL. He has shakes due to Parkinson’s. I used the factory oil (leaked from the bottle from factory big mess) on the back of the tang, but it still requires quite a bit of force to deploy. I am not going to physically alter it in anyway for it may end up being returned but want to see if anyone has a solution, or had a similar experience with this knife. It is very suitable for Florida due to our wet summers but know my FIL won’t be able to deploy this comfortably.076DD435-8689-48F3-9C53-C3913FA5AE17.jpeg9DAEEBC7-E568-46BB-A9D6-6B4ED983C40A.jpeg743F5017-BF33-4490-9570-2D196F4CCEB2.jpeg94514C7A-A5A7-485B-860A-28C3FCF16C4D.jpeg59ECB195-9800-4EF3-B11B-4A1EB08625EB.jpeg144A3AD7-CB36-48B3-B1A2-1BEB3EB2191A.jpeg

Most likely suffering from the dreaded pressure on the lock bar problem. Try opening with your left hand, so your fingers holding the knife are on the scale side thus not touching the lock bar. If it flips open easily with your left hand then the pressure on the lock bar is the problem. I have several high quality frame lock flippers that suffer from this problem. I’ve pretty much stoped buying frame locks.

yep I'd bet fingers resting evenly lightly on lockbar. try adjusting hand with zero fingers resting on lockbar or pocket clip and see how it goes.......

I have a STS-AT and would say that also has above average detent steength. It might be a brand thing.

Alright, I see that now, your finger goes right on the lock bar as a natural resting place. I am a tad embarrassed, I should know better. It is better, but still quite stiff. Thx gentlemen.

Maybe a Spyderco from the salt line would be a better fit?

Stupid question, but wouldn't an OTF be a lot easier for him to use? Just slide the lever up or down to move the blade in and out.

I had one of these with the same problem. You can enlarge the detent hole on the blade using a dremel tool. You can also grind in a small detent ramp. This fixed the issue on my knife and made it almost impossible to make deployment difficult by accidentally pressing on the frame lock by accident.
