No. Actually a paying member trying to understand how Bladeforums work. Like is it ok to ask for more than a item is worth. I really didnt think it would be so difficult to get an answer. And also at 60 years old. Dont really know what troll means. But if I will be disrespected on this forum . I will gladly sell elsewhere.Troll
So your actual answer would be. We really dont mark up prices. Just sell at value. If Im right .My question for you would be, do you want to be part of the community and contribute to it or are you here to just make money off of the community or anywhere you can?
No, this is a community of knife enthusiast who share a common interest in various kinds of knives and cutting tools. We enjoy pictures of knives, learning about knives, sharpening knives and customizing knives. So your actual answer would be. We really dont mark up prices. Just sell at value. If Im right .
Yes but ultimately the buyer decides the worth.Like is it ok to ask for more than a item is worth.
Thanh you for a sensible answer. Its all I was looking for. Im not trying to mark anything up, but if there was a norm. I didnt want to loose either. Thanks. With a Gold membership, as you have, you can inquire about current value.
You can also post wanted to buy, wanted to trade, and/or wanted to sell. There are dedicated forums for each. As well as dedicated forums for specific mfgs.
It’s a free market that’s determined by sellers and buyers.
When prices seem outlandish people will talk.
Thank you for answering.I know of one site that has rules about markup. This one doesn’t, but you’ll not make any friends if you’re just here to make $ on brand new limited drops (flipping). Spend some time watching the Exchange and you’ll get a feel for the market here.
Welcome! You are welcome to sell your knives here.Hello to all. Im new to Bladeforums and have a question. I hope to sell many knives from my collection here. So my question is about mark up on hard to get knives. Such as Hinderers , certain microtechs, etc. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for replying. Very insightful. I am fairly new to the knife world. About two years to be honest. But in those 2 years I came across MANY knives that I thought I just had to possess. Became a slight addiction !!! So now Im trying to downsize my collection, so I came here. And I was simply wondering if there was a norm for pricing knives that sell out quickly . And I thought that I worded the question so that I would get a straightforward answer. And I did get some honest answers, but also some panties seemed to get bunched up. Sorry to anyone I may have offended, by simply asking a question. But I dont do any social media , so knowing knife values from those places is impossible. But as suggested , I may gain some experience by selling here. I already have 2 for sale , and only marked up to cover G&S. Thanks again.Welcome! You are welcome to sell your knives here.
First, a substantial plurality (maybe a majority, but it's hard to tell for sure) of the community here takes a dim view of flipping knives for profit, but that's a pretty gray area. The thing people hate the most is people snapping up limited releases and then immediately turning around and trying to get double the money for it before it even arrives in their hands. On the other hand, no one expects you to sell your Loveless custom that you bought in 1980 for the same price you paid for it. If that makes sense. So there is a spectrum. If you've had your knives for a while, you're probably on safer ground asking for some markup, whereas if you got them yesterday, less so.
However, the second point would be... do you really know what a hard-to-get knife is and how to price it? The secondary market changes a lot.
Generally for me, if I have something I am going to sell, and I know it's rare, I will watch the sale forums for a while to see what the prices are, and set mine accordingly. If it doesn't sell, I'll either withdraw it or cut the price until it does. For most Hinderers, secondary price is now below retail price for production models. For rarer limited versions, that's obviously a different story.
You should know that there are a number of people whose participation on the forum is entirely limited to buying and selling. They are a source of resentment to the people who are mainly here for discussion, because they're the biggest profit flippers and don't participate in any way with the rest of the forum. There is also a substantial plurality that may be about the same size as the anti-flipper crowd that is more of a laissez-faire capitalist crowd that simply believes that people can try to sell for whatever they like and if they don't sell, then I guess they were asking too much. You can decide which sort of member you want to be.
Thank you for taking the time to answer. I have looked a little. Im not very good at navigating the site yet. But I noticed that many threads have the price marked out once sold. But some I could find that had not sold yet. Thanks again. It's a free market, you can say whatever price you want, heck, you can mark a Hinderer up for $10.000 and it's totally fine, the problem is no one in bladeforum is going to buy it. Why? because 1. we all know what we want, 2. how much does it cost and 3. whether the price you're asking is reasonable.
Now, if you want you know how much should you price your knife, just go to the buy, sell, trade subforum and do a quick search on previous sellers and their price, however, this is a bit tricky because people usually delete their price right after selling their knife, so you'll just have to be patient and look deep enough.
IMO, Hinderer's price isn't going to be any higher than the retail price bc they are restocked fairly quickly and Hinderer is expanding his production line (or just did, I'm not sure) so supply is not a problem. Microtech is a niche market, some people might pay crazy price for one-off custom, but not that many.
Naw !!! Will definitely be at least current value plus G/S.List everything as “Best Offer Only”.
