hard use fixed blade recommendation

i'm looking for a hard-use fixed blade for my backpacking rig. i'm thinking about a 7" or more blade. it's gotta hold an edge. i'm leaning towards a becker bk-7. i'm trying to keep the price down. can anyone recommend anything to those specs within reasonable range to the bk-7 ($40-$100 us)

You might look into the Swamprats. If I remember correctly, they were around $100.00 and have many happy owners on BF. I´m sure one of them will jump in here.

I'd go with a Becker or a Cold Steel SRK. I prefer SS, but it's hard to find that size for under $100. I do have a Cold Steel Bush Ranger in AUS8A, and I really enjoy using it for outdoor activities.
 
Here's another vote for Swamp Rat. They're . . . really tough, and won't break the bank.
 
The Swamp Rats are just a bit over your budget, but at least give them a look. They are worth every cent! :D
 
You can't beat the BK7 for the money unless you want a real chopper, then you can't touch the BK9. The Fallkniven A1 is a bit smaller at 6 3/8" (vs 7.2" for BK7) and is twice the price. It comes with a leather sheath and is still available in virgin VG10 for less than $100. The A1 is my choice for a jack of all trades.
 
Yup...you got it; The Camillus/Becker BK7.

There is also the Cold Steel Recon Scout to consider, as it is REALLY stout, with a 5/16ths inch thick blade at the spine.

Mega, listen up. The man said he wanted to spend under a hundred bucks. You need a 12 step program. Resisting the urge is obviously not working on your own. Seek professional help. :D
