Ok so I have a Murray carter neck knive in mail that is going to be my edc that will be used for slicing and stuff like that. Now I'm look for a hard use folder I was going to get strider sng or smf. My question is which handle material is going to take more abuse g10, aluminum or the new carbon fiber? I just picture alum as a soft metal that I make my alcohol stoves out of but then I realized that they used to make baseball bats out of it too?

Thanks for your time and help

G10 and Carbon Fiber will be pretty much unbreakable for even the most extreme use. Same with aluminum, though you may find the aluminum finish scratches quite easily. This only affects appearance, not use.

The reason these are choice are for your preference in weight, balance, tactile feel and grip, etc... they will all be way more strong than you ever need. Which Carter knife did you get by the way?

Nothing beats G10 in my opinion.

In my experiences aluminum is very strong but has zero traction (even if it's textured) and like the dude above me said, it also scratches easily if that sort of thing bothers you.

Carbon fiber is super tough and light but in my experiences the top layer clear coat starts wearing down and flaking off over time making it look very ugly.

G10 is super grippy and just about as indestructible as can be. In my honest opinion G10 is the best handle material for a hard use knife hands down. Micarta is also really good stuff but if it gets wet under the scales it can be ruined.

My vote goes to G10. I have a double gunner grip SMF and love it.

Thanks for advice I never even thought of it scratching that is a very good point. That kind of sucks bc for some reason I really liked the look of the black alu handle smf. And goodysniper I got his warnclif brute neck knife. I'm very excreted to get it now I just need to pick a handle material for the smf or sng and ill have a good edc combo. IMHO, but then I not as knowledgeable as many of the readers here. Just starting my collection. Metal made fox I was looking at the double gg too it looks thin and I was wondering bc it is thinner does it dig into you hand at all?
Thanks again for your time and help guys

You're definitely right, it is a thin knife. However I don't really find that it digs into the hand when gripping it tightly. I think you would like a DGG Strider. They are just such awesome looking knives. The gunner grip texture looks amazing, and even a non knife person can tell that it is an expensive knife right off the bat.

I used to have a regular lego SNG and it was definitely more "hand filling" than my DGG SMF if you know what I mean. However one thing about the DGG Striders is the fact that they are so freakin light!!! Every time I carry my SMF I always forget that it's in my pocket because it's so light. The fact that it's also thin makes it very unobtrusive in my pocket and mind that it is a fairly large knife!

I would say go for it, if you don't like it you can exchange it for a lego Strider.

Not to hijack my own thread but they also offer it in cpm154 and s30v what is the major difference in them?

Auto correct is not something to trifle with....

I have another question and I don't want to offend any one I just am cautious when it comes to dealing with people I don't know over the Internet. Has. Anyone delt with blue line gear? I'm just curious bc I have never delt with them and they are on the strider dealer list.

S30V holds its edge longer than 154. However it is much more brittle meaning that it chips and breaks fairly easy. It's also fairly hard to sharpen and get a good edge on it. I've had all these problems with it first hand. :thumbdn:

CPM 154 doesn't hold its edge as long as S30V. However it still has very good edge retention. But the biggest difference is that it is an overall tougher steel since it is softer it will take impacts and cutting through hard materials like steel wire better since the edge tends to roll over instead of chip like S30V. CPM154 also has slightly better rust resistance.

A lot of people here love S30V and a lot of other people hate it. However I have never really seen any hate for CPM 154 from anyone. So, my choice would be to go with 154.

Oh, and to answer your other question. Blue Line Gear is a respected Strider retailer around here. I don't believe you should have any problems ordering from them.

So, now go get that DGG Strider in CPM 154 now! :D

Thanks again metal you have been most helpful. Again I didn't mean to offend anyone with my questions on blue line gear I just didn't know.

Carbon fiber is not tough. It is strong but it is surely brittle.
G10, even in the thinner concealed carry models, is strong and I've never seen any mention of any Strider handle failing.

Buy from any authorized dealer. The only pointer I have is buy from someone with free shipping. ;)

Ever handled a b enchmade presido or infidel? They have great traction in their handles any they're aluminum. I'd say if you're not worried about it getti g scratched up aluminin is better because its probably easier to machine to tight tolerances and its more rigid

I really like the look of the alum handle smf I just have concerns about it. I'll probably get g10
