Hard Wear series?

I wanted something to carry around since loosing my 7 would break my heart (I've lost quite a few knives and i'm not willing to take that chance with my 7). Since Emersons are great (expensive, but worth every penny) I though I might check out the Hard Wear series, specifically the Reliant since it looks similar to the CQC-10. Anyone handled one of these? Can these lower priced Emersons take a beating? Also, can they be used as tactical folders if needed?

Thanks guys.

i don't own any, but where they save money is on the steel and using less expensive materials all around.

i cant imagine they are of poorer quality, just less $$.

They use AUS8-A which I suppose isn't that bad. I'm just wondering if it would make a decent tactical/EDC folder...

I've got knives with AUS8 blades. It's a good steel, though I would shy away from it these days with so many better steels out there. It's easy to sharpen. AUS8A is supposed to be slightly better than AUS8.

please define what you mean by tactical folder. and there's nothing wrong with aus8. will hold a good edge and should be fairly easy to sharpen.

whether or not it is a good edc knife is largely subjective.

opinions on size and ergonomics vary from person to person, and there are a few hardware folders. they are also backlocks, and the regular line are all liner/frame locks. i prefer linerlocks, but also have a few lockbacks from other brands that i like to carry.

i can tell you i have been pleased with every emerson knife i have owned, somewhere around 10-12 iirc.
