Does anyone know of a good source where I could get hard wood like hickory, ash etc. used for example, walking sticks or canes? Thanks
Scott

Thank you. It looks as though they've got what I'm after. :)

Scott,
Sort through the handle bins at your local hardware or Home Depot. I've found a surprizing number of highly figured curly hickory, short and long (hammer, pick, shovel, etc.). Some of it is down right high grade material.
HD and Lowes are starting to carry some kind of import wood for the posthole digger and wheelbarrow handle (square on one end) replacements. Not much if any figure but very dense tough, kind of orangish redin color.
Large flea markets usually have a vendor or two with large bundles of replacement handles also.

oh FYI to you guys, you can get osage orange sticks for bows, that could be used for nice handle material seeing as how everyones always after some of it. just google "bow staves", or something of the like, and a couple of places should show up. i used to have a bunch of links to the sites, but i lost my favorites when my pc crashed.
