Sorry for asking this question again. However, My computer died. I am using steel from an old cross-cut saw for blades. I heated the blank until it was cherry red then let in slowly cool so I could easily work on it. After I finished the blade, I re-heated it to a cherry red, removed it from a small furnace/kiln made from two hollowed-out fire bricks, and plunged it into a metal container of warm (150 degree) cooking oil. The blade did not hiss or create flames or even much smoke. Did I do something wrong? Is it hardened? The steel is approximately a 1/10" thick. I need HELP!

You should post this in the maker's forum, you're much more likely to find someone knowledgeable about heat treatment.
