Hoping Ed Schemp sees this.

Anybody got info on heat-treating a Beta-C titanium blade?

I've done the grinding on a blade that Ed forged out of Beta-C titanium for Chuck Bybee. Whewe!!! what a load of work!

I really don't know much about Ti, but believe the Beta-C can be hardened to the low 40Rc range.

Thanks guys!

Nick,
What I've used for Beta C (Ti-3Al-8V-6CR-4Zr-4Mo) is 850 F x 1 hour and water quench, and 650-760 F x 2 hrs and AC. Rc mid 40s.
This heat treat was for this specific grade.

Annealing - 1500 F , 30 min, AC
Solution Treating - 1500 F, 30 min, WQ
Ageing - 850-1000 F, 4-24 hr, AC

Thanks Kit, I had been looking for that info for awhile myself. Now I can go ahead and finish off that Titanium fighter that has been laying around for a year.....or....maybe it'll be next year. We'll see!

Thanks for the heat treat information Kit.

To say I excited about this knife is an understatement! A high tech knife made with Nick's craftsmanship. :D
