hardness difference

Why is there a marked difference in the hardness of the CPM440V steel in the Starmate versus the Military? My catalog lists the Military at 56-58, but the Starmate at 59-61. Are the newer Militaries coming out with the harder CPM440V, or is it actually 56-58? And, on a similar note, what is the hardness of the CPM440V in the BF Native supposed to be?

Thanks, anyone.

In regards to CPM-440V being left soft, it is
relatively fragile. For example at 56 RC its charpy value is still about 25% less than D2's at 59 RC. At the opposite end of the spectrum. 3V's charpy value at 62 RC is twice that of D2's at 59 RC.

So is the blade or edge grind on the Starmate that much thicker than the Military? And, if the charpy value is less for 440V, leading to lower Rc for the Military, does the Rc drop even lower for the BF Native?

O_D - The catalog is in error. The hardness of CPM440V as we heat treat should be 56-58. We learned the hard way what CPM likes as a knife steel (& we're still earning). The BF Native should also be 56-58. Sorry for the error. will inform Mktg.
