Hardness for a D2 camp knife

I would think you would be okay. As long as its not heavy chopping or hitting rock hard wood. You could always go 59 just to be on the safe side.

I would advise against 1/8" and go with 3/16" or at the minimum, 5/32". D2 performs best at 59 to 61. I've done some crazy things to my blades and feel 1/8" is pushing it to thin.

Thanks for the replies!

Scott, I already ground the blade (dammit!) -thanks for the advice, I'll see how this one holds up. Next time, I'll go with some thicker stock.

I have madew knives with D2 all the way from3/32" to1/4" thick and harden them all to ~60 HRC for peak toughness. All thicknesses worked well. I personally don't like knives thicker than 3/16" and have made a bunch of 1/8" blades.

If you want to make deep hollow grinds, 3/16" and 1/4" are the thicknesses to use. The strength is provided by the thick spines.

If I remember correctly, Dozier blades are 60.5 Rockwell. They seems to hold up ok. ;) :)
