Wow, thanks for all the great info in the other thread!

Just so I can explain this to myself and others, can someone give a quote or even an estimate of the typical hardness (Rc) of these steels?

1. Queen D2 (I've heard Rc60-61) [60]: 60

2. S&M Ats-34 ( ???)

3. Case Chrome Vanadium: (57-59): 58

4. Schrade OT 1095 carbon [57-59]: 58

5. Boker carbon (is this 1095?):

6. Eye Brand Solingen stainless.:

7. Victorinox SAK steel.[55-57]: 56

8. Case "Tru-Sharp" stainless.[55-57]: 56

I know you guys can at least guess and fill these in.

This won't affect my descision, I'm just curious. I'm going with a Queen AND a Case CV , though I haven't decided on the scales yet...

If you cannot give numbers, maybe arrange them from hardest to softest?

Case SS (420HC according to AG Russell) runs about 55-57. Soft.
SAK steel is again 420HC, at about the same overall hardness. However, the geometry is better than the Case, accounting for it's better cutting ability.
Queen D2 is right about 60.
Case CV works like it's about 58, so I wouldn't be suprised to hear 57-59.
Schrade 1095 is about the same, 57-59.

Don't know about Boker and Eye, though.

Is SAK steel a modified 420HC? With more vanadium possibly? I seem to remember that somewhere?

Is it true that, if ground the same way, "tru-sharp" would match Vic steel? I know geometry has a lot to do with it, but I always thought Vics were still better (or Tru-sharp was worse).

P.S. Don't let me sidetrack my own thread, feel free to give me numbers, and more rankings etc...
