Are there any companies/individuals who do hardness testing even if they didn't do the heat treat? I just need to send a few coupons/knives and have the hardness checked. I understand that it would cost me in shipping both ways, and paying for the test, but I cant find where anyone is offering that service. Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you checked with makers in your local area?

Just coupons would be cheapest as they would not need to be sent back to you. The coupons need to be flat and ground through decarb to a 220 grit finish.

Before I got my tester off ebay, a kind email and box of doughnuts got some coupons tested by the materials science group at my local university.

What part of the world are you in? If USA I'd be happy to test a few coupons for you. Just have them cleaned and ready to test. If you don't need them back I can toss them, or if you do need them back just include a shipping label for a SFRB should be fine. OR, a first class package might be less expensive

I'll take you up on that. I'll send coupons, so you can just chunk them in the garbage afterward. What do you need them sanded to, 220?
