I've been around BF for several years now however I just now realized that my income can't keep up with my knife appetite. For that reason I'm going to try to get more happiness from 'Maintenance, Tinkering and Embellishment'.
I recently picked up a used Kershaw Lahar on the exchange and decided to disassemble it to see if I could smooth out its flipping action. I found that the screw heads in the back spacer are all but stripped and even the one threaded barrel that's supposed to hold the screw must have partially stripped threads because it allows the screw to get somewhat tight but then the screw spins.
My question is, how do you guys normally handle these kinds of hardware issues? Would you research exactly what you need when you find a need for it or do you stock certain standard size hardware to try and be ready? Is there a certain screw chart (size indicator) you'd recommend to help me to figure out exactly what kind of screw I need instead of asking every time? Have you come across kits (if they make such a thing) with various standard size folding knife hardware?
Lots of Q's, I know, but ultimately it's so I don't go unnecessarily creating threads. Any general knife hardware comments or recommendations are certainly welcome. Thanks,
John
