Earlier this year, I was laid off as an account manager at an eye wear company here in Southern California. While I did find temporary employment immediately, it was without benefits, and was relatively far from home. Fast forward to the present, and I'm starting full-time employment on Monday at a tech company in a similar role.

I also took a celebratory long weekend so that I could do some repairs around the house. My latest project is laying sprinkler pipe for a garden in our backyard. I was missing a 1/2" "L" piece of PVC, so I decided to take a run down to our local True Value. I normally visit Lowes or Home Depot, and haven't been to True Value in years.

I found my piece, and decided to see what they have in terms of knives. I found a couple Vic Climbers, some no-name one handed openers and multitools, and this gem:

A Schrade USA 34OT. Aside from some slight wobble in the main blade, this knife is in perfect shape. Very nice fit and finish, spectacular walk and talk, no grinding or rubbing, and the sheepfoot has great size/shape ratio! I've even already put it to the task of developing a patina on the main blade. It'll come :)

Strangely enough, I do seem to recall seeing the blue clam pack that this knife came in in the display case last time I was at True Value. My guess is that it's simply not something many people would look at. Everyone else's loss is my gain :D

For my first Schrade USA knife, I am duly impressed.

Way to go on all counts! Use it in good health and prosperity.:cool:

 Good for you on that rescue!!;) Good ole American made with that beLOVED 1095 carbon steel what more could you ask for in a "workin mans" knife.:D

Nice find, great steel and indestuctable handles. The only OT handle I ever saw broken was one my wife shot with a 357. We were using it to hold the target up. I told not to shoot it, but............

Thanks all. It really is a nice knife that I'm looking forward to putting through the paces. A shame that the manufacturing was sent off shore.

I really like these Hardware find stories. :)

Great find Getahl.

Congrats bud! It's good to see the last few U.S. Schrades going to good homes. It would have been terrible for someone else to have gotten this and broken the tip off and let it rust in their tool box. Treat her right and she'll serve you well...I know my 330T sure does (lucky yard sale find, almost mint besides the patina).

I had mine out sharpening it just the other night. I was thinking about how I took them for granted back then. I sure appreciate them now though. That's life I guess. Congrats on your find.

Great find!
I found this 340T under a tent while cleaning up a Boy Scout summer camp site years ago. Cleaned the rust off and had a very nicely patina-ed knife.

I found a new in box 96OT trapper with toothpick and tweezers in a Schrade display case last week. It made my day, no week. I just put it on the paper wheels, and it is very sharp.

Thanks for the hearty congratulations, all. I'm really digging this knife, and will probably be keeping my eyes peeled for more :)

I grew up 10 minutes from the last Schrade factory in Ellenville, NY. It was always a thriving plant with lots of activity. We got any "seconds" of their knives for $5 each. I used and abused many of them. If I only would have known.......
