ive searched for hours on this subject but no luck. I need threaded standoff’s for the scales Im thickening. I need round, 3/16 od, min. 9/16 long with 6-32 threads. Anyone know of a source?

You can find 3/16" OD standoffs with 6-32 thread no problem. Finding specifically 9/16" may be a challenge, but I was able to easily turn up plenty of 5/8" and 7/16" ones in a matter of seconds.

Well I guess I’m a technological idiot. I’ll try again. Found lots of aluminum but no stainless

Does it have to be SS , these little guys I find interesting , I got them off the Bay they were listed as folding shave razor bolts . The female tubes OD is .195 X .5 long with the male part screwed in it will give you 9/16 . If you don't like these have you tried McMaster Carr ?

An appropriately sized machine screw with the head style of your choice and a self-clinching fastener looks pretty slick. :)

Both types look like good ideas. My issue is that the scales are already made and finished so I didn’t want to change the countersink. I didn’t think aluminum was strong enough. I finally ordered 1/4” od that accepted the same 6-32 screws so the holes need reamed but counter sinks don’t need modified. And yes, I got them from Mcmaster Carr, which brings me to this warning: STAY AWAY FROM THEM. I WAS NOT SHOWN SHIPPING (EVEN ESTIMATED) AT TIME OF ORDER, THEN I WAKE UP TO A $63 SHIPPING CHARGE FOR A $26, 1LB PAXKAGE.

I use blind cutlery screws. You drill the holes smaller in a full tang. Then larger in the handle material, counter sink and fill in the counter sink. Let the glue dry, cut them off (they screw in with a slot screw driver) and sand them flush. Here's a recent drop point skinner I did using them with micarta scales. DM

You mean corby bolts?

Just trying to make sure I was understanding you right or if there was some kind of different fastener being used that worked similarly. :)

View attachment 1057236 Bolt cutters are handy for shortening small fasteners. The bolt cutter on the right has some countersunk positions for flat and oval head screws. Nice knife David.
