I'll give ya' $250 but that's all the higher I can go. My address for delivery is........ :D Actually, that's a pretty good bike. I was looking around awhile back and saw a comparable for $7200 I think. Check out Harley's used pages and that should give you a ball park of what she's worth.

You should be able to pick her up for $6,800.00. Maybe less if the owner needs to move it.

Pretty nice cycle Dan, I would try to get it for no more than $6500. As you say it needs work and it is the end of the New England riding season (post Labor Day), it is an antique, nothing wrong with that, you know mine is a 79 and I drive it all the time .

Harley's are selling for a lot less than they used to, as the market is pretty flooded with them. Though Shovel Heads are gettin more and more scarce

thanks Guys

Eric do you have the URL to Harley's used pages ?

Larry
Is this one the same as yours? I can't remember? it's been a while since I've seen yours.
I think you said you went to points on yours or was going to do that?
this one has been swapped to points which I'd want anyway...

this guy has it for sale for $4900. I made an offer and he should let me know today, I hope..
I have some car parts he's interested in also.. so I hope that's a tickler for him :) it's been a while since I've had a two wheel ride..
Thanks guys

It's a Harley, make sure you have a pickup truck already, or add getting ont into the price:D.

got one already, 350 GMC 4WD that should get it around just fine
I'll need some extra weight to haul around for more traction this winter anyway :D

$2.000 as is. If you do all the work in restoring the circle to its original condition. You should be able to increase the value of the motorcycle. New custom paint, tires, all the goodies that go with it. I would suggest starting out smaller on making a bid on it. From the photo you posted it looks like you would have a gorgeous looking bike with some work. But that's just my opinion. Have a great one Dan. And by the way I had a great time down there over the holiday weekend. --------:D

$2000.00  :D
I've been looking around in the swap books pricing harleys, I found a sporter for 2500.
in Parts... :)

Dan,
$4900, not bad at all, that is a real Maine price :jerkit: My bike is a late 79, a lot like that one you're looking at. I switched to points on it back in 84, but I went to a Crane single fire ignition somewhere around the turn of the century

At 45000 miles it'll be ready for a top end job pretty soon, +.010 pistons, rings, valves and seats, somewhere around $500 installed, if you know the right guy. If I were you and bought it, when it does finally need a top end, I'd put an S&S oilpump, high volume, standard pressure, it did wonders for the longevity on my cycle.

At the great risk of angering the Shovel guys, I'd suggest you hold out for an "Evolution"--later the better.

Those older iron motors can really bust you in constant repairs and questionable reliability. (If you want it reliable by anything close to modern standards, you'll have to really keep up with it. Some guys don't mind this and if that's you, go for it, but if you just want to rack up some miles and not worry about it so much, go EVO.)

My 2 cents.

but It's a real harley, nothing againist Willy :) ;) , not meaning they arn't Harleys now.. but it's like old mussel cars. to me
they stoped making camaro's in 1968 GTO's in 69 Tangs in 67-68
if you can see what I mean :)
it's the nastalga, this bike was biuilt about two years after I got out of the service..and it's a trip back in time for me.. it's not one I will put a lot of miles on.. that's what the New ones are for and the rice burnners :D

Jim thanks for the link..

Larry this one has had a Vavle job done a short time ago, why just that I don't know? if it was just that..
I just happen to know a guy that can do all that work himself..with 30 years of on the job training ;) :D

Dan:
Looks like a nice bike. I would see about removing the ugly graphics on the chrome on the left side of the bike. Oh wait a minute, that appears to be you reflected in the chrome. If that's the case you can leave it. Should be a lot of fun for you come next spring.

Marcel

haha you caught that did you:D

A nice old shovelhead.I sold mine last year for $7750. Don't be surprised to pay up to $8500.00 for a good one.If you pay $6800. your getting a good deal.A nice bike to restore, i wouldn't chop it,I would restore it. The shovel is the best sounding motor Harley made, and looking in my opinion.

Here's mine.

I bought a 76 shovel for $4500.00 in 92 put an other 100,000 miles on her and sold her for for $7500.00 in 98.
I've had an EVO and now have a 2003, Twin cam,HD fatboy, but I miss that 76 electric-glide. I just had more fum on the shovel than the newer HD's
If you note I said I put 100,000 miles on my shovel, and it had many miles on it when I got it. So when some one talks about not being dependable I just ignore them. That said Keep a tool kit on her.
I think you should buy that bike. If you don't I mite.

... So when some one talks about not being dependable I just ignore them.

Yup, ignore away. I don't know what I'm talking about.;)

(My point was that dependability on a shovel usually requires considerable care compared with the new bikes. I don't think that's arguable, but it is something to keep in mind going in, I think.
BTW, Nice job on the 100K:thumbup:)
