France is probably my most favourite place to ride on the Harley......their drivers are more considerate to cyclists and motor cyclists than anywehre else I have ridden, bar none.

On the road

We went canoeing one day to have a rest from biking, though we had to ride to the canoeing place - though it was cool on the river, when we had to change in the open sun in the carpark - 104.9ºF - not easy for an ol' fart like me...!IMG_0177.jpeg

I think the reason riding is different is the same reason driving is also; people tend to follow the laws, and drivers know, and act like, it's a privilege. Still, I would never ride on the Autobahns. Guys do, but it's just crazy at the speed. Have to love the secondary roads though.

Someone once said the difference between Europe and the USA is that in Europe people live in town, and go out to the fields to farm, whereas in the US people live on the farms and go into the cities to shop. I think there's a lot to that.

Glad to see you made it to Thiers. That's still on my list. If you ever get the chance head over to Solingen. You'll see a very cool cutlery museum, Boker has factory tours, and Haribo has the gummi bear outlet right there. And every year there's a really good knife show.

Personally, My favorite part about driving in Europe is what I hate about American drivers for the most part....
KEEP RIGHT PASS ON THE LEFT........If I was a cop I'd have written a bazillion failure to keep right tickets😜.....
And cell phones!!! Cars can do all of the work!! No need to hold the phone at all anymore but Douchenozzle's still do while driving slowly in the left lane...😡😡😡

We can't have all the faults...

So true !
There's also a technical move that few people master: lifting your right foot off the right pedal.

Dan.

And directionals....Not ESP activated....... Move your left arm a few inches and turn.on your fookin blinker.you turd........Driving a tractor trailer for 30+++ yrs I've seen all the wonderful tricks idiots pull...........

I apologize for running away on this tangent.......I will remove if OP wishes....🙏

Care and consideration to cyclists and motor cyclists is a mandatory part of the driving test in France.

Also, most teenagers in France at some point own and ride a scooter/small motor bike - they know what it's like to be out there on the open road on 2-wheels.

We often get French drivers with their inside wheels in the verge/over the white line, just to allow us to overtake more safely............then our right foot/straight leg comes out to signal a thank you.

The best sticker I ever saw on a tractor trailer was actually two. One was on the left side of the back of the truck and had an arrow pointing to the left and was labeled "Passing side." On the right side of the back of the truck was a similar sticker, with a similar arrow, but this time pointing to the right. It was labeled "Suicide."

Point taken.
