Seeing a lot of harpoon tips over the last 18 mths or so. Is there a functional reason for this style blade or is it simply aesthetics? Do you like or dislike??

I haven't seen many of these, but from what I've read it's mostly aesthetics, though some say it adds a bit more weight towards the tip so helps with chopping. Or makes a comfortable place to rest your finger or thumb on the back of the blade.

I like the looks of the harpoon tip on med-lg fixed blades. Give the knife an aggressive look. I dig it. Also gives a nice piercing point if you add a swedge. Other than that, I don't see any obvious reasons for it besides looking cool. (Which is a perfectly legitimate reason for one IMO)
