I just got back from seeing Hannibal and from what you see of the Harpy, I don't think that there is much need for concern. The scene that is posted the other thread must have been from a trailer and not included in the movie. You can see a knife with a curved blade and you can sort of make out the Spydie hole. However, the scene is extremely quick and the knife is the dark most of the time. Plus, it really takes a very attentive eye to catch any detail and you have to know what you are looking for. If I hadn't really read the book, I would have thought it a Harpy but I would not have been sure. As far as the book goes, I am not sure the outcomes. But I don't think the movie is much to worry about.

I'm gonna have to argue with you Jazzman, I saw it, and there was enough time to notice that it was a plain edged harpy. It was used twice in the film.

Other supporting knives in the film were a D/A Microtech SOCOM tanto, and a black SAK on a keychain.

(Hey it's my 1000th post, time to get another knife.)

Another knife was probably a benchmade: it's the one Clarice uses to cut Hannibal free in the pig arena : I have not been able to see it clearly but it looked like a very angular blade ( Probably an elishevitz, but i don't know if it was a striker or not )

Clearly the author knows something about Spydercos. In the book after Hannibal escapes from Italy and has to leave his possesions behind, he goes to a gun show looking for a specific knife that only a certain dealer might have. It turns out to be a Civilian that the dealer has stashed behind the counter for those who know what to ask for. The knife is never used, but the author goes into detail about the difficulty of finding it.

I saw the Harpy and the Microtech(?), but in what scene was the black SAK?

In the movie the gun show scene from the book is notably absent, which I think is good. That might have alerted the sheeple anti-knife organization that gun shows are breeding grounds for knife-wielding serial killers who like Spyderco knives.

The gun show sequence in the book is horrible! It really isn`t flattering to gun owners and makes the liberal, Algore-type of distinction between "sportsmen" and "people that attend gunshows". Totally irresponsible.

I didn`t get the feeling that the author was intimately aquainted with knives. I got the feeling that he did some research, got some names of some scary knives and was done with it. His interaction with the guy at the gun/knife show was totally farcical and didn`t ring true at all. I wouldn`t call the author a RKBA believer.

The SAK was on a keychain near the end, sitting next to the telephone and the handuffs. Before the "Dinner" scene.

(I'm also getting sick of the bad guys using spydies too)
