Harpy use, ugly but with cinderella ending

I got a harpy some years ago, and I carried it for daily use. Then we started remodeling the downstairs. So I used it to cut fiberglass tape, score and cut drywall, trim wood, open boxes etc.

At one point the masonry guy asked if he could borrow my knife. When I caught up with him later he was using it to pry mortar out from between bricks.

After that the mitts where off so to speak and I used it for pretty much everything and anything. The latest use was help in stripping paint from a door, it got covered with a cement like goo of dried stripper and lime green paint.

So I only carried it when I "suited up" to go strip paint. I never carried it otherwise and it was sooooo ugly and messy that I hid it in a drawer.

A week or so ago I thought, maybe it's time to throw it away as it's such a mess.

I couldn't do it, I had a change of heart, got out the scotchbrite pads, some fresh paint stripper and after an hour of of scrubbing and cleaning, I got my Harpy back!

So the finish is more matte than shiny, but it's back to EDC for a while. What's amazing to me is that after all this kind of use the G-2 blade didn't show any signs of rust or corrosion. (Bet ya thought I was gonna say it was still sharp. :p NOT! )

Any, it was nice to retreive the value of this knife after I had written it off.

Dave,
Sounds like you did put that knife through an ordeal, alright. I also harshly-treated a G-10 Harpy (when they were plentiful) by using it to cut lots of plastic irrigation pieces for my home-project. Many times these parts were partially-buried in our wonderful clay-rich Michigan soil. Some TLC and touch-ups to the edge later got it back to "Passable" condition. Very tough little critters, those Harpys!

G-10 Harpy is my all time favorite workhorse of the Spyderco line. Should be brought back!!!

Good idea, Mike! Maybe at least in a future sprint run for forumites or collectors.
