So, I just got a Harpy. And, I must say, this is a knife that I should have got years ago. I always loved the hawkbills, and the SpyderEdge really sets them off. But, for whatever reason, I always pass them up. Well, not this time. I got a Harpy, and I'm in love. I guess old Hannibal was on to something, after all. And, lets's face it, the fact that it's Hannibal's knife of choice is just plain cool.:cool:

Anybody else have love for the Harpy? Let me see some cool pictures, if you don't mind. I'll try to take some glamour shots of my new baby tomorrow. :D

Even though I have many many favorite Spydercos, the Harpy has to be my all time favorite. The carbon fiber and hawkbill just make a perfect combination.

Here's my clan.

That is a nice collection you've got. Mine is the SS version, though. I think stainless steel handles have a got a classic Spyderco look. They're my favorite looking Spydie's. They can either be dressy, and go with a suit. Yet, they are tough as nails and ready for work.

I bought a ss harpy a few years ago for my wife to EDC. I think it's a very under rated spidie. The overall size of the knife is very comfortable to carry. The hawkbill blade makes a great everyday task cutting machine. The serrated version seems to stay sharp for ever. Great knife! My wife EDC's it always and she was not the knife type before the Harpy (she carries iwb style) I picked the Harpy for her because of the hawkbill. I believe this makes an excellent self defense blade for the relatively untrained. I explained to my wife to use the harpy like a woman would use her nails in a self defense situation. Claw at the face, neck, arms, groin, ect.... This is a very simple technique to explain to a woman. And any girl who grew up fighting with her siblings already has these gross motor skills implanted in her brain. Can't say enough good things about the Harpy. Besides it's defensive use it makes a great utility blade. The wife is amazed at how often she reaches for her Harpy. And she uses it so much that the deployment speed from iwb is pretty impressive (again building muscle memory). Her one complaint is that the clip is too reflective, although carried iwb she clips it just to the side of the front button when whearing jeans/pants. I offered to paint the clip, just never gotten around to it. Sorry I got side tracked. Contests on a great spidie!

I have two SS harpies, one in ATS-55 and another in VG-10, both SE. These are great knives. They can handle some pretty hard cutting chores; for example, the Harpy is one of the better knives for cutting open those annoying clamshell packages safely. The hawkbill blade is less likely to accidentally slip out of the cut. At my work, I cut a lot of plastic strapping, and this design is ideal for that. It's a specialized blade style, yet you find a multitude of uses for it.

Though lately, I've been carrying either my Tasman Salt or Spyderhawk at work more. Mostly because I carry down in-pocket instead of clip-carry, and they're lighter in the pocket.

I must jump in here. Spyderco Harpy is actually a knife that started this thing (some say obsession) between me and sharp pocket things. There was an article in Slovenian hunting magazine about some new sort of folding knives with big holes in blades and intergrated pocket clips. Pictures od Endura, Delica, Pro Venator, Police and Catcherman. I have browsed all around and find the most apealing of them all at that time ..Harpy. I have had a bunch of Spydercos and other folding knives. There are a lot of those that came and went away. Harpy is staying for life!!

I have a current stainless VG10 Harpy which is serrated and a Tasman Salt plainedge. I think this style is more effective serrated. I love the Harpy as it is slim and thin and just comes easily to the hand.

hey folks,
got this earlier in the year and have carried it almost every day since.
one of my most useful spydies.
never really cared for the ss handles, so always passed on the one at the local gun/spydie dealer.
but i had a chance to get this g10 ats-55 version for a great price, and it's already done fifty bucks worth of work.
