Hey all. I just wanted to share with you guys my recent hike at Harriman State Park earlier this week. I went with my 2 brothers and we had a great time. The best part of the hike was at a lake (or so-called reservoir on the map), which was absolutely gorgeous and had a nice place for a campfire. I think next time I go here, I'll probably stay the night at this area.

I brought the BK2 and BK9 along with another awesome bushcraft knife to practice my fire skills as well. Recently, I had changed out the scales for osage orange based on a whim, just to see how they would look. I gotta say, osage orange is some kick-ass wood. It looks amazing on my beckers, and I think I will keep them on there forever.

Oh, you wanted pics?

ouch, I gotta say that the scales look 100x better in person than in the pictures. The picture of the close-up bk2 (6 up from the bottom one) shows the scales the best.

I've hiked in Harriman before. Gorgeous park. You mentioned spending the night near the lake, I didn't know that was possible - You're right, that would be an awesome spot to camp.

Did you check out The Lemon Squeezer? I found out the hard way that this was in fact a different lemon squeezer than the famous one at Mohonk. Still cool, though.

nice! pine meadow lake? careful there, i saw a big timber rattlesnake there last year...they're common in that particular area of harriman.

Hey thanks for posting this. It's been a number of years since I've been there. Brings back some good memories!

Hi no is not pine meadow lake but I've been there before. It's a bit more crowded in my opinion. This is the 'third reservoir' on southern Harriman map. The trailhead starts at diltz road and it's fairly rocky. But it's also much less crowded. It was 70 degrees out and I didn't even a single soul on the 7 mile journey.

Edit: now that you remind me, I did see a small snake jump into the water and swim. I've never seen a snake swim before and it was terrifying! Maybe I'll rethink staying at the reservoir...

I've come to enjoy Harriman a great deal. Not a hiker, I was introduced to Harriman when doing some land navigation training, and it's really quite beautiful. I've only explored a very little bit so far, but as my boys get bigger, I hope to take them out and get to know it a lot better. To keep it Becker related - the last time we went out, I got looks from some of the other Soldiers, as they couldn't fathom why I'd need a BK2 in addition to my map and compass. It wasn't about need. It was about awesome. And the BK2 is awesome.
