Another adventure in the books for Jay, Juicy and myself. On this latest adventure, we hiked through a lot of different terrain and elevation changes. Water was at a premium, but sunshine and the beauty of Harriman was plentiful! We kept it lightweight in regards to food
well, lighter than usual!
A good time was had by all, lots of laughs, new food groups added to our pallets, some skills, boulders, an elephant foot, deer bones, a black racer snake, and natures chocolate colored swamp waterwhat more could the heart of a man want?

Summer is still in full swing here in New York, with only quick glimpses of cooler weather and fall rearing its calm head around the bend. For now, about 93F with almost zero breeze. We were going to take a new way up the hill, new to Juicy G and me, but not to Jay. The main water source was going to be a reliable, year-round pond, yeah! Sounds refreshing, so much that I decided to pass on filling up my water bag in the measily little streams, but opted for a quick drink with my straw filter, just to get some moisture. I usually do the old camelup trick as to not hike with too much water weight on my back, instead, it balances better inside my stomach while it works its magic. I drink from just about any water hole I can with this little trick and fill up at the highest point of the hike, if I can, and kill the water with some iodine. This was a hike where the hydration plan went a little awry.

Juicy G seemed to be reenacting a scene from The Karate kid as he donned his headband for the hike. I thought he was going to be fighting someone from Cobra-Kai for a minute.

We found these bones scattered around the forest and tried to put it back together. I started the hike by saying, this is where the dead talk, were going to where the dead walk. (Pet Cemetery)

These large, flat rocks resembled a fort um, you had to be there. The one tree looked like an elephants foot.

Valley of the Boulders

Lots of uphill hiking and steep sections, my favorite.

Jay was going the legal route and used his Emberlit

The lovely Oasis

But the water was hard to reach, unless you wanted to go about 30-feet through nasty poo water to get to the good stuff. I had to settle on scooping up the clearest, freshest water which youre looking at.

When I broke the surface inside the water, the stench of an outhouse rose up through the water like an unholy poo spirit. It was clear, I had to settle for the water and filter, and then boil.

This is before putting the coffee in

Its good to keep all receipt paper in your pockets when going on a hike. It makes good kindling.

Time to eat

Mr. legal, twig cooker man.

Its good to see a new, young woodsman roll with the punches, jokes, terrain, and overall comfort levels in the woods. I can see him start to take shape under Jays guidance and enjoy helping out with advice, tall tales, tom foolery, and tips on how snakes that make a rattle sound are really purring and just want love. Juicy is one of the good guys!

More juicy bacon

A quick bale added

You saw it here first yesonion stuffed!

Obligatory brew pic (no cigar or dogs though)

Hanky after the filtering process

4 inch-long bloody gash from stepping into the swamp water on a sharp stick.

This was a signal that better water was close

I cameld up big time.

Even had time to do my hair

Steep

Another great time with good friends!
