Well, here it is -- Harry's Sanu Bhimsen Special. It is 18 inches long and my guess is about 1.75 pounds without putting it on the scales. Silver mounted as you can see with a ruby for the eye of the dragon. The inlay in the sword of Shiva is 24K gold -- $30 worth. Great work by Sanu and Bhimsen, a 10/10 effort. What more can I say?

It will fly today, Harry.

Sanu strikes again! The dragon's eye is a very nice touch. The karda looks like a real user- is that a steel bolster barely visible? A practical idea if it is.

Thanks for the great pix uncle.

It's a great rig but Harry wanted some engraving that didn't get done and I'm not sure why. I do know that our favorite engraver for very fancy stuff which Bhimsen feels he can't do is in pretty poor health and has periods when he can't work.

Also, they didn't mark the blade and my guess is this is because Harry already knew who was doing the work and where the knife was being made. It's a little strange but I know they have some sort of logic for what they do which often seems illogical to me.

Harry, I forgot. If you want a provenance for this knife let me know and I'll write one up and send it.

Uncle, I love the shape of that blade! I'm not familiar with it--what do you call it? It looks like a hybrid between a GS & an AK. Well, actually, it looks very similar to the YCS blade.

What do you call this blade shape?

Considering how quickly Jim replied to this post, I'd say that the HIKV is with Jim

As for the khukuri, I'll admit to being a bit dissappointed in the lack of engraving, but the whole package is too good to pass by. I'll be looking forward to receiving this khukuri, which, by the way, was the secret project I was providing some teasers about.

Thats very pretty.

Can you do a close up of the blade to show why it is called "Two Grooved".

Will

What engraving did they omit Harry?

Looks mighty sexy to me.

Rog,

Both sides of the blade were to be heavily engraved, along with the habaki, and buttcap. Engraving was to have as much Nepali content as possible(wildlife, mountains, flowers, religious symbols, etc.). In short, looking at this khukuri would tell you a story.

Harry you have scored yet again!!!
That is a beautiful piece!!

And when I 1st saw it I did think for a second it was a YCS blade and then I saw the difference.

In doing a bit of carving in my time I really admire that work!!!!
Makes me wonder what was used to get the fine finish on the wood. It's very difficult to sand out carving marks, so best not to leave many.

Uncle Bill and some of the forumites that was at the Reno Khonvention can tell you about my
"Coyote Flute."
smile.gif

When I made him I didn't know he was gonna play blues & jazz, but it's fitting since the Coyote is the Trickster for many tribes.
Tsisdu (The Rabbit) is the Trickster in one of my cultures, the Cherokee.
Hmmm, Wonder what a Tsisdu Flute might sound like?
Big long ears layed back against his head, crossed turquoise eyes and his tongue hanging out kinda like Coyote.

And Harry I'm with Will. When you get your camera can/will you please do a close up of how the fuller runs into the Sword of Shiva?

Beautiful!....Gives me some ideas on the next purchase.......I really like the rounded chape! Carving is excellent!

I really like the carving. I do some carving myself and that is just beautiful. Another future purchase. I need another job...

Wow. That is a joy to look at. I'm so glad it doesn't belong to me, Harry, because I could never let go of it. I will stick my neck out and say that a clean blade is ten times more beautiful than an engraved one. This Khukuri is one for the ages. Uncle Bill, put it up instead of that other one for your trademark!

Most of the kamis do not like engraved blades either and I am wondering if they imposed their will on Harry this time. They do override orders sometimes just as they did when they made Antonio's katana. I made the mistake of telling them Antonio was a museum curator and Bura thought the katana BirGorkha was making would not look good on display with a plain handle so he exerted his authority as shop foreman and the result was Antonio got a decorative handle -- exactly what he didn't want. We are now in the process of trying to make Antonio's katana as ordered.

Obviously, there is some reason for them omitting the engraving but I have yet to discover it even though I chastised them rather harshly for sending the rig sans engraving. But, like Harry, I felt the rig was too good to pass up and return for rework.
