Has anyone made, or heard of someone making, their own wood handles for a Hartsook/smidgen? I carved my first spoon the other day and I used the hartsook for some of it but it was hard to grip and not all that comfortable. I realize that it is not intended as a whittling knife but the blade shape and size are pretty perfect for that application. It reminds me a lot of a Frost 120.

I know that the Frost can be had for relatively little cost, but since I already have the Hartsook I think my next whittling project will be making some handles for it.

Ideas?
Pictures?
Helpful advice?
Anything?

I cord wrapped one but that is the limit of my skills. Have to be careful or else it won't fit back into the sheath if that matters to you.

It is a neat little knife and a great buy for the price!

the only thing i could think of is a piece of wood (any kind) that takes up about 1 inch of the handle or right before the second (closest) finger groove to the blade epoxy it to it.

ps. this will be permanent

I made a wooden sheath for my Hartsook and just cord-wrapped the handle. I used two pieces of thin oak, traced the blade and then carved out a recess that fit the blade to my liking, then I made two recessed holes epoxied in two neodymium magnets and then epoxied the two pieces together.
