Hartsook Neck Knife

Hey Guys,

I was recently on a Canoe trip without any pockets to put a knife into. I used to have a CRKT neck knife but sold it because I didn't think it was very useful to me. After this trip, my mind has been changed.

I've been looking at the Hartsook for a while and I thought "S30V for 22 bucks? Can't beat that!"

Have any of yall owned this knife that can share their oppinion of it before I order one? One specific detail I'd like to know is if the blade is a V grind or a chisel grind. (my crkt neck knife was a chisel and I hated it)

Thanks

It's a V grind but be aware it has a pen knife sized blade and is very thin. The whole knife is approximately the length and width of your index finger or smaller if you have big hands. In other words its only good for small lite duty tasks.

Think of it as an unfolding pen knife for all those little cutting chores. Opening mail, plastic blister packs, UPS boxes, the jute twine for the tomato plants and other gardening things. Its gut and cleaned a few pan fish.

I've had mine since last December, and its become a favorite carry edc. Its like the sharp fingernail you wish you have. Handy as hell. If I need a bigger knife, I have a Wenger SI in my pocket I can dig out.

My sheath was a little loose, so I ran some very hot water on it with a rubber band, and then cold water to set it. Since then its been fine, I wear it with the short loop of cord from the sheath around the middle button of my shirt so it hangs just inside the opening of the shirt by my stomach. Just have to reach in the opening in the shirt above the belt buckle and pull out.

I love my Hartsook!

Thanks guys. I'm not looking for it to be my main edc knife, I always have a bigger knife in my pockett, but i just need something in the rare event that I have no pockets.

Have you considered the Buck/Mayo Kaala? I too wanted a small knife and went with the Kaala. Ain't looking back- S30V, neck sheath, some size, only twice the price!
Dave

yea i have looked at that and it's an option, but my only thinking is whether or not it'll be worth it because this isn't a knife I'd be wearing around much.

now you guys know i am one of bucks cheerleaders but i would recomend the mayo over the hartsook in that some folks have issues with the hartsook leaving the sheath during rough activites... and buck is redesigning the sheath a tad to correct..
so for rafting ect... were jareing and bumps happen .. go mayo..
but this is jest MHO...

I own one the sheath is really loose. however I wrapped a rubber band around the sheath and it holds the knife much better.

The Kaala is awesome. No regrets here either.

I don't have a Hartshook, thought about it, but whent Kaala instead.
However, I would be interested if someone could post a pic of two side by side (or a link if this has been done already).
