Has any one perchaced the new Blackjack jet pilot knife yet?
I am Keen to find out more about them.
Is the saw on the blade any good or is it just for looks?
What are the pros & cons of the leather washer handle vs synthetic?
Would it be up to chopping/battoning ?

I don't have the knife. However I can answer your question on the sawback.

The original military pilot survival knives (mine was a Camillus) had a sawback on the spine of the blade. It's purpose was twofold. First to cut up the aircraft fueselage skin to allow one to make use of it in a survival situation (as well as to aid in escape from the wrecked aircraft). Second was fot use in notching wood for snares and production of tinder for firemaking.

The saw on the Blackjack knife is more of a serrated edge than a saw, It may work ok for notching but it won't rerlly work as a saw due to its design. It would however work well at cutting rope and webbing as well as other tough materials. The idea of providing the serrated edge on the back of the knife is a good one for it leaves you more sharp primary edge to work with. Personaly I won't buy a combo edged knife. But the Blackjack is a contender.

Overall it looks to be an excellent knife.

Don't be put off by the leather handle. Apply a little sno seal to it and it'll last a lifetime.
