I kept one Montero with old style Diesel Engine
The engine could consume Palm Oil and other type of cooking oil without any problem.
I believe that is useful while gas are not being able to transport and distribute then I have alternative source of power.

I'm planning on living off the land.
Hopefully someone will have a car with a full tank of gas for me if I need it.

nice pajero! i haven't seen pics of them in a long time...reminds me of the 80's/90's when i was a kid in the philippines and the toyota land cruiser, mitsubishi pajero, and nissan patrol were the only available 4x4s and were actually driven on rough terrain. that was way before the soccer-mom suv pretenders jumped on the bandwagon.

in my family we all drive toyota land cruiser and 4runners for everyday use. i've slept in the back of mine several times comfortably (as in completely flat, not just with the seat tilted back). i got stuck on a highway traffic for 8 hrs or so due to an ice storm back in college and have learned my lesson - now i can just pull over, sleep and wait it out the next day if i ever needed to again.

JV3 Your words reminded me of my childhood, different continent similar stories. With the difference that I am probably older than you so it is only the 80s for me.

And soccer moms I hate them, but wait a second my wife is a soccer mom and I am a lacrosse dad now...!!!! how that happened...!!!

Best Regards.

Love the Pajeros! Just got back from Phils and saw a few Landcruisers and even a couple of Wranglers.

Many more Jeepneys and tricyles.

I have only one vehicle now- Trailblazer with a few suspension mods. I do keep my 4X4 ATV in good shape and would favor it for offroad survival in this area as I do not have to rely on trails. Not much protection from environment and carry is limited but freedom to leave trails/roadbeds is nice.

Horses- you can eat them if they break down! I miss my old jughead.

M35(a2) deuce and a half! Multifuel...and if you get one that is from the early 60s it is EMP proof!! Runs on several different fuels including used motor oil! But it also runs on: diesel fuel, jet fuel, kerosene, heating oil or gasoline! Its big but it is also versatile and capable. But it is also SLOW!!

I have a KLR650 dual-sport motorcycle in the garage to be used as a post-apocalyptic getaway vehicle. It needs good old unleaded but will go a long way on a small amount of gas. Of course I've also realized that in 99% of disasters for me the right thing to do would be to hunker down at home vs. some flee for the mountains fantasy.

Uggghhh [shudder]. I'll give you credit for being able to keep that thing under you. The KLR 650 was the last bike I rode and I laid that torquey sumbi**h down in a gravel patch in a hurry.

In my defense the thing was tuned by a psychotic German co-worker so the the throttle was either in or out and nothing in between. As was the clutch. :o Nice ride Remmmm.

I am thinking about a short bed chevy with diesel, or a K5 in diesel. I would take gas also...I doubt in a TEOTWAWKI situation, that I would get to far in a car anyway.

I drive a Grand Cherokee. Got it for cheap after the block cracked on my old ride. Over the next year or so, I am lifting it two inches, installing a winch, and putting a safari rack on it. Plus the required axe, shovel, jerry cans, etc. Just got some all terrains for it, and that is probably what will stay on it, even after I finish my project. When I am done it will not be a daily driver, but a toy for offroading and camping. Daily driving will be done in another as of yet undetermined vehicle. I was looking for an excuse to get the Jeep, so the timing worked out well. It's a 4x4 v8, and runs on unleaded, but it is a Jeep and damn near bullet proof.

Maybe a vehicle would get you away from a given situation in the first few days of a TEOTWAWKI scenario (if the roads aren't completely blocked with abandoned cars), but I would be planning on transpo alternatives. And I would also plan on getting the far, far away from roads.

You can run a diesel engine on alternatives, but I'm guessing you probably know that it's not as straightforward as just pouring palm oil in your tank.

My Toyota Tacoma TRD with rear lockers will crawl through all sorts of stuff. It's my daily driver so it's always with me.
